“Off the Vine” at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival

So much Fearless Comedy Productions!

So much Fearless Comedy Productions!

In Screw It!’s second episode at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival, we decided to focus all (well, most) of our wine drinking super powers at “Off the Vine” wine tasting featuring Fearless Comedy Productions. This event costs $20 and is about an hour long. Welcome to Screw It!’s first mini-episode!

We got to try, in this order, Ménage à Trois’s Malbec, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Grigio.

Does that sound like the wrong wine tasting order to you? It sure is!

Apparently the kitchen staff feel that guests spill more beverage closer to the end of the event so they do the whites then…to avoid clean-up. Isn’t is nice that this means we taste wines in the incorrect order?

Exactly how much wine is supposed to fit in here? Exactly?

Aside from the wines being presented incorrectly we get such a sweet, petite, baby, dainty glass! However you do get to take it home so that’s worth it, right?

Now I know where to put my bromelaid!

Finally! Now I know where to put my bromelaid!

The fun part is that you get to drink wine and get a semi-private performance from Fearless Comedy Production company members in Wise Fools, an improv troupe, and The Dregs. Plus performers will hang out at your table and tell you “funny jokes.” (Sorry Karl! We love you still!)

Here are some Screw It! pro tips:

  • Ask for water. You don’t get none, if you don’t ask.
  • Apparently shoving money down the server’s cleavage gets you more wine. (Win/Win?) We noticed that other tables were getting ridiculously amazing pours while our weensy glasses were only half-full. Money makes the magic happen here.
  • You will get some decent snacks but this sure as shootin’ isn’t “scrumptious hors d’oeuvres” as the website describes. Eat something substantial before arriving.
  • Know that the performers have zero control over the wait staff. The kitchen staff serve wines in the temperature they want, in the amount they want, in the order they want.

All-in-all though, Screw It! wholeheartedly recommends this event. $20 is entirely worth it! Go and enjoy! Screw It! thinks this is a great way to spend a Jackson.

(Screw It!’s fave wine at Ren Fest? Ménage à Trois Red Blend at Uncorked Vintry, the “fancy” wine place. By the water wheel thingie. We gave it a 4 out of 5!)

DISCLAIMER TIME: Dawn was super wrong when she said that our next event at the Phoenix Theater was on September 27th. It’s really September 25th. Kelly McCullough and his wifey is still gonna be guesting!!!

Yay for RenFest! While the sound is a bit noisy but the energy was great! And of course the Wise Fools are simply awesome!

I didn’t catch when your September recording is scheduled, but I’m going to haz a sad if it’s when I’m in Ireland… After the 20th?

Hey Bob! Our tasting at the Phoenix is on the 25th of September, so you had better show up. Or we’ll talk smack about you.
